Malcolm Graham, Deputy Chief Constable at Police Scotland, recently spent time at our Castlebrae Police Treatment Centre in Perthshire. Malcolm took some time to thank the Police Treatment Centres and the entire team for their amazing work, speaking of his firsthand experience at the Police Treatment Centres.
Whilst Malcolm has visited for various reasons over the decades, he had last attended as an in-patient in 1997 and his most recent stay reaffirmed his memories of the wonderful facilities and programs, but most importantly the caring staff at the Centres, providing support for Police Officers. The Police Treatment Centres have provided rehabilitation for on average, over 1000 Police Scotland Officers each year since Malcolm’s last visit.
Since Malcolm last visited the Centres in 1997, we have undergone vast alterations at both our Castlebrae and Harrogate facilities. These changes include a brand new £5 million Clinical Services Wing at St Andrews, a full gym refurbishment and installation of hydropool and sports hall facilities at Castlebrae, we have also seen the creation of Sensory Gardens at both Centres.
In addition to these upgrades in infrastructure, the Police Treatment Centres introduced a Police specific Psychological Wellbeing programme in 2016. This was introduced to combat head on the stress triggers experienced each and every day by Police Officers on and off duty.
Malcolm expressed that he could see that the impact on Officers who attend for treatment is genuinely transformative. “Through mine and fellow Patients experiences, I experienced first-hand and cannot emphasise enough how important the work you and all of the team do ensuring the Police stay fit and healthy and our nation safer as a result.”
Malcolm concluded his testimonial by expressing his wish to pass on his gratitude to those at Castlebrae and the Police Treatment Centres who make this type of treatment possible. He mentioned that from arriving at reception, to the room facilities, the dining room and kitchen team and the wonderful gardens. “The entire experience is certainly much greater than the sum of its parts.” Malcolm also mentions “how lucky we are in the UK to have The Police Treatment Centres, as I strongly believe it is world class leading, the envy of many policing colleagues across the world, and also of other professions within the UK. All the more reason to support the work and appreciate the hard work of everybody involved”.
From all the staff and volunteers at the Police Treatment Centres we would like to thank Malcolm for his kind words and offer of continued support in promoting the Charity. Feedback like this truly makes all of the effort and dedication to providing a Class-Leading environment for Police Physiotherapy and Psychological Wellbeing rehabilitation feel truly worthwhile.
