Peter Stanyer Testimonial
On the 24th of March 2019, Peter Suffered a horrific accident on his motorcycle, he sustained awful injuries which included 26 broken bones. After discovering part way through his recovery that as a retired Police Officer, he was still entitled to attend the Police Treatment Centre, he began donating and attended in August and again in October 2019.
Whilst at the Centre in Harrogate, Peter was allocated a Physiotherapist, Alison with whom he met with everyday for extensive treatment and care. Peter reflected that this treatment simply cannot be provided through NHS services and urges all Police Officers, serving or otherwise to sign up today, as he says "you simply never know when a serious accident may creep up on you, for £7.80 (serving Officers) or £2.81 (retired Officers) per month, it is a peace of mind that all Police Officers must invest in".
Peter attended the Police Treatment Centres in Harrogate as a Serving Officer in 1988 and was astounded at the level of development the Centres have seen since. In addition to the class leading physiotherapy treatment that Peter received he also mentions the benefit that he drew from the exceptional additional facilities at the PTC in Harrogate. the Hydrotherapy pool, sauna and steam room had a fantastic effect on his recovery and he made special mention of the acupuncture, meditation and relaxation classes but also surprised himself with how therapeutic the company of our in house therapy dogs could be.
Upon completion of Peter's second visit and another 7 days Physiotherapy treatment with Alison, he promised her that he would maintain his efforts with regards to the exercises that he had been working on and that if he was ever to get back to hill walking he would send us at the Police Treatment Centres a photograph of Peter at the summit.
I am delighted to reveal that on the 30th of September Peter successfully summited the Wainwright, Rannerdale Knott (1,200ft) Peter made it after, in his words "a long slog up the hill, being encouraged by my friends and family along the way"
As promised, Peter, provided us with the following photographs along with these wonderful words.
"I am 10 months post motorcycle crash in which I suffered 26 broken bones including a Lisfranc fracture in my right foot. I attended the treatment centre for 2 weeks of intensive treatment under the care of Alison and your team of physiotherapists.
I never thought I would be able to walk any distance and certainly not climb in the lake district again. However I wanted to try.
The treatment I received whilst at the PTC in Harrogate transformed my leg and in particular my foot from useless appendage to a working functional asset. Your staff encouraged me to keep going and put the work in, even when it seemed at its hardest, the Police Treatment Centres and everyone who works there have certainly transformed my life.
I made a promised to Alison that if I ever made it up to the lakes and climbed again that I would take a photo at the top for her. The photos below show me on top of Rannerdale Knotts. 1,200ft of pure torture but I did it and next time it will be a higher hill.
A big thanks to you and all of your staff."
On behalf of all at the Police Treatment Centres, I would like to wish Peter and his family all the very best in the future, next stop, Everest.
