Each year about 4000 members of the Police Family receive treatment on a residential basis at The Police Treatment Centres. By prioritising applications on the basis of clinical need, we seek to offer treatment at the optimum time in a Patient’s recovery. Treatment is provided free-of-charge to those who make a monthly donation to the Charity. If you are not currently making a regular donation to the Police Treatment Centres and would like to do so, please click here for more information.
The Psychological Wellbeing Programme is a two week structured programme designed specifically for those suffering with mild to moderate anxiety and depression.
When applying for the PWP your role will be taken into consideration by a Clinician so that you are directed to the most appropriate course, either Police Officer and Frontline PWP (including CSI, Detention and Custody, PCSO, Special Constables) or Police Staff PWP.
The Retired Officer Wellbeing Programme is a one week programme designed specifically for those who have retired from the Police and have a formal diagnosis of mild to moderate anxiety and depression.
The application forms for psychological support also includes two short questionnaires to help assess suitability for the psychological support programmes.
Please ensure all parts have been completed and the relevant documentation attached (please see checklist if unsure). Often information is omitted from the form, such as a proper description of the condition requiring treatment, proof of donation and relevant signatures all of which will delay the application process. The more information available for the clinical triaging of the application, the easier the form is to process.
Following a number of matters arising in the past, it has been necessary to introduce a process to assess, as well as support for, the attendance of Patients' ‘companions’. In such cases, please also complete and submit the Companion Application Form.
Please note, demand for the PWP at the PTCs continues to increase and therefore, in order to manage waiting times, any applications received from Northern Forces of England (Cleveland, Cumbria, Durham & Northumbria), will be directed to Castlebrae, Auchterarder unless there is a compelling reason to attend St Andrews, Harrogate.
The PWP is designed specifically for those in Service, enabling them to have coping strategies in their working life, and therefore their applications will be prioritised. Due to the waiting times, anyone leaving the Police Force within 6 months from the date of application, will not be eligible to apply for treatment unless there is a compelling reason to.
Please see our Retired Officer Wellbeing Programme for those in retirement.
For Police Staff in non operational /frontline roles, there are set dates to attend. Please state your preference in the relevant section on the application form and we will do our best to adhere to this, subject to clinical assessment and capacity.
The Police Staff PWP will run throughout 2024 on the following dates:
07.10.2024 - Castlebrae
04.11.2024 - St Andrews
02.12.2024 – Castlebrae
