James Taylor, 35 year old Dog Handler with the Ministry of Defense Police Force suffered over an extended period of time through back pain which was only getting progressively worse. This is his story of how, with the help of the PTC Remote Physiotherapy provision, he is now on the road to recovery.
After initially suffering with minor back pain caused by the onset of Cauda Equina Syndrome, this eventually led to extreme pain in his back and legs and he was diagnosed with CES, a disk bulge which had compressed his spinal cord. This in turn led to a severe lack of mobility and made operating at full duty extremely difficult.
James was then booked in to attend for a two-week Residential Physiotherapy program at the Police Treatment Centres. Unfortunately, due to the Covid Pandemic, this had to be put on hold, however due to the implementation of the Remote, Virtual Physiotherapy provision, James was able to access treatment for his condition.
“I have been able to do specific strengthening exercises with the guidance and input of a physiotherapist which has ensured I have carried out the exercise correctly. On some occasions the contact has meant that I have not pushed too far too quickly with certain exercises which would have potentially caused me further injury. Although I am due to attend the Centre after COVID, the input I've had via video have proved very useful.”
James is currently on a phased return to full duties but comments that the improvements to his mobility following the intervention from the Physio team at the PTC have been marked in comparison to the time period before receiving the Remote Virtual Physiotherapy. Although not fully recovered, after ten sessions, James hopes that the improvement will continue over the coming weeks and months.
We at the PTC wish James the best of luck moving forward in his career and thank him for his ongoing support.
