"I recently attended the Police Treatment Centre in Harrogate with a dislocated knee that I suffered playing rugby. The admissions team were fantastic and arranged that I only went for one week as I have small children so could not be away for a long period.
On arrival I was immediately greeted by friendly, warm staff and assessed by a very knowledgeable clinical team. The Physio department then discussed with me in detail, my knee injury but also any other aches and pains I had from previous incidents. The next step was to design a personalised plan for the gym and also scheduled enough time and space to enable me to relax. The team quickly identified that with a full time job, 3 small children and a serious injury, I was understandably very stressed.
Having sent my medical records alongside my application, the Physio team were then able to instruct me how best to exercise without causing myself more discomfort. I have suffered hyperextension in my knee ligaments, which I had been informed by doctors, however no one had discussed with me what this meant in terms of exercise. The Clinical team at the Police Treatment Centres took the time to go through this in detail as well as explaining exactly how and why my knee dislocation was so severe, again something that has never been explained to me outside of the PTC.
After attending the PTC, I am now more aware of the physiology and movements when competing that make me prone to injury, this will enable me to reduce my chances of incident in future.
Before leaving I was given a fitness plan for the gym and home. I means that I have the confidence to continue my physio and relieve stress if I do not have the time to travel to the gym as I have a plan to complete in the comfort of my home. The only problem is I don't have a hydrotherapy pool in my house, it really is the best thing ever!
I honestly cannot thank all the staff enough. I came away from the Police Treatment Centres feeling fitter and reinvigorated. The food was delicious, especially the soup.
A massive thankyou to all."
