Our Auchterarder Centre was recently awarded a grant of £5,100 from Scotmid Co-operative to allow us to purchase 6 new mountain bikes. Our bikes at Castlebrae are well used by our patients but due to the amount of use they receive our mountain bikes were in need of replacing and upgrading.
As part of our treatment for both physical injury and mental ill-health, we try to encourage the officers to be as active as possible while with us, both indoors in our very well equipped gym and treatment pools, but also outdoors, taking advantage of the beautiful setting in which Castlebrae is set. We also do our best to encourage officers to continue with their increased levels of exercise when they leave the centre.
One of our Fitness Instructors is now qualified in leading cycling groups and so we are now getting groups of officers out and about on bikes each week as a formal part of their rehabilitation. Cycling is a fantastic cardiovascular exercise and provides good all over body exercise.
Scotmid Coop has supported thousands of local community projects and deserving causes in the communities they serve across Scotland and because the PTC benefits all communities across the country they were willing to support us with an incredible donation of £5,100.
Seen in the photo below with the new bikes is Graeme Addison, one of our Donor Engagement Officers, along with Lynne Ogg, Membership, Community and Society Press Liaison Manager with Scotmid, and Ally Hutchison, who is a member of Scotmid’s North Region Board and who has also been with us at Castlebrae for treatment as a serving police officer.
The bikes are already very popular with the patients and we are very grateful to Scotmid Co-operative for their kind support.
