Castlebrae recently received another very generous donation from His Highness Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
The Deputy Ruler of Dubai kindly donated a further £40,000 through his Foundation, The Al Maktoum Foundation, to the PTC. The donation has been used by the charity to undertake not one but two projects.
Firstly we have been able to completely refurbish and upgrade our conference facilities at Castlebrae, including increasing the size of the conference room itself. As well as being used by the charity, we also hire out our conference room to other police family organisations and officer groups. This brings some much needed additional income to the charity. To have upgraded these facilities and increased the size of the room is therefore a great boost to us.The new conference room was officially opened on 23rd February by His Excellency, Mirza Al Sayegh, The Sheikh’s right hand man and Chair of the Al Maktoum Foundation.
The second project we were able to tackle with the funding was to re-instate the large pond within the grounds at Castlebrae. The original pond has for many years now been damaged beyond repair without investment and was not holding water. The funding from The Sheikh has allowed us to have the pond area re-defined and re-lined and the area around the pond will be landscaped with new plants once the planting season arrives. This will bring the area back to its former glory and once again create an environment of peace and relaxation for the patients.
His Highness Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, has been a very generous supporter of the Police Treatment Centres for several years now. He originally provided some funding towards the construction of our new fitness facilities at Castlebrae which were opened three years ago, and then funded the first of our two Alter-G anti-gravity treadmills in the new gym. He then made a donation to allow us to restore one of our social areas at the centre and create The Al Maktoum Library, a room for quiet reading, learning and relaxation which has now become a very popular room with the patients.
We are very grateful to The Sheikh for his generosity and the on-going support he provides to the PTC, and to HE Mirza Al Sayegh for his enthusiastic support and assistance in organising the donations. We would also like to thank Mr Robert Gibbons, former Chairman of Highland Spring, who is a personal friend of The Sheikh and Mirza Al Sayegh and who has been instrumental in gaining the support for the PTC from Dubai.
