Every day police officers put themselves at risk to ensure our communities are protected so we feel safe and secure in the places we live.
Did you know?
• Every 27 minutes, a police officer is assaulted in the UK.
And
• 54 officers are attacked on the streets every day.
Police Officers need a place where they can come to receive treatment when they have been injured or fallen ill. The Police Treatment Centres provides that facility.
Most officers receive intensive physiotherapy, whilst others seek support with stress-related conditions and some attend for reasons of respite or to recuperate following an illness or operation.
“It’s fantastic! …. What Tom has done in five days is more than they managed through the NHS in 10 weeks how is that right. If I wasn’t a police officer and didn’t have this place, I really don’t think I would ever be the same again!” Police Officer Patient
Opened in 1903, St Andrews has been a feature of the Harrogate landscape for more than 100 years. Last year, almost 200 people came on the day to visit the centre and learn more about our history and how we help officers.
‘Good to see our police are cared for.’
‘Learnt a huge amount about police welfare. Lovely historic building and grounds.’
‘I was given a real insight to the hard effort that the police put into their work, which I think can be taken for granted a little by the general public.’
Please join us this year, where (subject to availability and shift changes) you will hear directly from Police Officers who have attended the centre for support.
"I honestly believe that without the treatment I would not be in role I am in today and that it would also have had a huge impact on my family." Police Officer Patient
Ann and her Leonberger Therapy Dogs will also be joining us at St. Andrews. They visit the Centre once a week for a couple of hours and offer comfort, happiness and emotional wellbeing to the patients. Many patients staying at the Centres are dog owners themselves, or even work with dogs, and while away from home or work will be missing their canine companions.
As a result they very much enjoy this opportunity to interact, spend some time with, and talk to these very friendly and gorgeous dogs.
This event is free, but making a donation on the day really would make a huge difference to the care and support we can provide to these injured and ill officers. Thank you.
Heritage Open Days is England's biggest heritage festival involving 40,000 volunteers. It celebrates our fantastic history, architecture and culture; offering people the chance to see hidden places and try out new experiences - all of which are FREE to explore.
Why not make a weekend of it? B&B is available at St Andrews for members of the police family and their guests for the weekend at the usual highly competitive £100 double or £80 single weekend rate.
