This is my first blog for the PTC. I have recently stepped up to the role of Acting Head of Donor Recruitment and Charity Engagement whilst Fran Greenwood is on maternity leave. In addition to these changes, we have also recruited a new Donor Engagement Officer, Megan Turner, who started with us in March 2023.

2022 was a record-breaking year for the team, all whilst being a team member down! The team attended 300 different events across the country. The team regularly attend Student Officer Inputs, Pre-Retirement Courses, Wellbeing Events, Conferences and Training Days. I really enjoy attending these events as it’s a great opportunity to speak to new Officers and those who have been in the job a little longer! It’s a great chance to provide an update on the work of both charities and answer questions that Officers may have about attending the Centres.

The start of 2023 has been busy for the team, and we have already attended over 100 events. The team will be working hard throughout this year to reach our newly eligible groups including CSI / Police Staff Investigators, PCSOs, Special Constables and Detention and Custody Officers. We are also keen to attend training days to speak to Officers who may have been in the job for many years and have either forgotten about the benefits of the PTC or not attended for numerous reasons. Throughout the year, the team will also be hosting virtual information sessions with the aim to answer any questions you may have about attending the Centres, treatment available or how to apply! The team have also been busy embarking on a project of securing new photographs and video content for our presentations, social media and website. This is a huge undertaking but will hopefully result in more imagery accurately reflecting the excellent work across both of our Centres.

This year also sees the launch of our brand-new fundraising event, The Big Step Challenge. The challenge hopes to get everyone moving this Spring and improving Physical and Mental wellbeing.  The challenge starts on the 15th May and fundraisers have a month to complete their chosen amount of steps. The Police Children’s Charity continues to benefit from its rebrand and name change, as we have seen much more interest in it during the last six months. During the rebrand of the Charity, we ran an amnesty and a competition to win a new electric car! The car was won by Bryn Meehan and his young family who says:

 “The car is going great!!! We have been using it as much as possible with a family of 5! It has made a huge difference to our monthly outgoings! I reckon we’re probably saving at least £200 of fuel per month!”

It’s always humbling to see just how much The Police Children’s Charity impacts the lives of Officers and their families on a daily basis.
