This month, we have a guest author of our monthly blog. Our very own PTC President, Baroness Angela Harris of Richmond DL.
Having known of the Police Treatment Centres at St. Andrews for at least 35 years, being a member and then chair of North Yorkshire’s Police Authority, it has been an enormous privilege to be invited to be your President
I have ‘form” in this area! I was a Trustee at Flint House – your southern counterpart – for many years. I knew it well. But I’m a North-Country lass, living in Richmond (the original Richmond of all the Richmond’s in the world), so I always felt a closer affinity with PTC St. Andrews. How lucky am I to see now how brilliantly it flourishes!
The huge improvements over the years at the Charity both structurally and in the development of the very latest techniques and best treatments in trauma recovery and the management of stress have been nothing short of stunning. It is a far cry from the rather dull, but worthy, environment of the past. No-one can fail to be impressed by the quality of the accommodation, the high standard of the excellent food or the all- round friendliness of the welcome, followed by the best treatment tailored to each individual.
Then there’s Castlebrae! I have just returned from a quick visit there, our Scottish PTC, to meet the staff and experience for myself our most northerly centre. What a revelation it was! Set just about three miles from the famous Gleneagles golf course (if you’re in to such things!) this truly beautiful house is surrounded by stunning gardens in the little town of Auchterarder. No compromises on quality here, either. Clearly it is the place to go to if you are from Police Scotland, but I was also surprised to meet officers from the English forces too. They absolutely loved it! Which says a lot about the setting, ambience, treatments – oh – and the food Castlebrae offers. It is a superb PTC and you can all be justly proud of helping to provide the very best of help for your colleagues when they most need it.
Tell all your colleagues about our two Centres – and make sure they contribute such a small amount for a time when they may just need the help and support these amazing home-from-homes can offer them.
