The Psychological Wellbeing Programme is a two week structured programme designed specifically for Serving Officers with mild to moderate anxiety and depression, and stress related issues.
When attending the Police Treatment Centres on the Psychological Wellbeing Programme, you can expect to take part in group sessions in stress management, coping strategies, relaxation, sleep and mindfulness. Alongside these are group exercise sessions and also individual counselling and complementary therapy sessions.
"Absolutely brilliant two weeks, the 1:1 sessions were fantastic, …the Counsellor knew exactly what advice to give me. The complementary therapies were wonderful in making me relax"
The set classes and one-to-one sessions are part of the overall team’s support for each patient. The relaxing environment, food and facilities along with the staff from all departments, help to provide a place where Officers can relax and can concentrate on their recovery.
"Very good, as the group became more integrated there was a sharing of experiences and coping mechanisms.”
Police are under higher stress because of lower staff numbers and exposure to stressful situations and sometimes both personal and professional responsibilities take their toll. Attending the programme allows an Officer the time and space to focus on their psychological wellbeing and develop personal strategies and coping mechanisms to take away.
"I have thoroughly enjoyed the programme ... it has helped me along the rocky road to recovery."
Please note, demand
for the PWP at the PTCs continues to increase. In order to manage waiting times, any applications received from Northern Forces of England (Cleveland, Cumbria, Durham & Northumbria) will be directed
to Castlebrae, Auchterarder unless there is a compelling reason to attend St Andrews, Harrogate.
PWP is designed specifically for Serving Officers and enabling them
to have coping strategies in their working life. Therefore, at this time,
applications will be prioritised for those in Service. Due to
the waiting times, anyone retiring within 6 months from the date of application
will not be eligible to apply for treatment, unless there is a compelling
reason to. Please see our Retired Officer Wellbeing Programme for those in retirement.
Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.
