Each Treatment Centre has excellent resources within its gymnasium with up to date machines and exercise equipment.
Patients can access the gym under their own steam or as part of a programme designed by their physiotherapist.
Both physio and non physio patients can attend the gym and the fitness instructors can provide assistance with:
- Designing tailored exercise programme to meet individual requirements
- Bleep Tests
- Body statistical Information e.g. body mass index
- Nutritional advice
Police specific exercise and functional training is provided and commonly include the use of:
Personal protective equipment
Protective vests can for example be incorporated into an individual’s exercise programme, helping increase stamina and alleviate confidence issues which the injury may have brought by strengthening the associated area.
Shields are also available for individuals to use as part of their rehabilitation programme, proving useful in recreating activities carried out during the use of force and public order training. Exercises such as shuttle runs carrying the shield and step-ups can prove very useful and beneficial exercises to help with these specific needs.
ViPRs (Vitality, Performance & Reconditioning Equipment)
These are long rubber tubes, consisting of different
weights used for multi directional functional movements.
For those officers who are involved in a lot of public order work, this equipment will be of particular benefit, however they are good pieces of equipment to use in treatment for all injuries.
Mountain bikes are also available from each of our two Treatment Centres for outdoor exercise.
