Upon joining West Yorkshire Police, I chose to donate monthly to the PTC as I heard from colleagues past and present how good the facilities were for rehab purposes.

In December 2015 I regrettably needed a full knee replacement and a few months post op, I attended the PTC for a 2 week stay, during which time I was assigned a physiotherapist who I saw daily and followed a personal fitness plan which aided my road to recovery. The Physio dept/gym is fully fitted out with every type of machine to assist in your rehabilitation and fitness.

There are also daily classes in upper body, lower body, pilates, relaxation and yoga (there are more but too many to remember).

I also used the hydrotherapy pool as part of my daily exercises, followed by a swim in the main pool. Around the side of the pool, there is a sauna and a steam room, which are great to use at the end of an exercise session.

As well as a snooker and pool table, there are communal areas to sit, chat or read, watch tv and free coffee/tea including herbal option which were a bonus.

The food at the PTC is fabulous, and the portion sizes are plentiful. The staff are so welcoming, and nothing is too much trouble for them.

All in all, I left the PTC feeling 100% more positive than I did on arrival, and more knowledgeable regarding my rehabilitation.

Fast forward to January 2025 and after having my other knee replaced, I attended as a retiree, spending a week at the PTC. I spent a week following an exercise plan devised for me by Dan the physio. By the end of the week, I had gained more flexibility in my knee and had increased my cycling time by 100%.

The PTC offers a unique service, which you wouldn’t receive anywhere else. Should you be injured on duty or need rehab after an operation, the PTC offers all your needs under one roof. There is also a Wellbeing programme which assists staff and officers.

All in all, for the price of 2 Costa coffees a month, you could have these facilities at your disposal should they be needed……
