Las t time I was writing this back in September I
had just completed my tandem skydive with the Red Devils. This month, I have
just got back from an unsuccessful try for Chief Constables Dee Collins (West
Yorkshire) & Mike Barton (Durham). It’s unfortunate we didn’t have the
weather for it, but another date is already in the diary for July so fingers
crossed. Both Dee and Mike have helped raise an absolutely amazing £16,101.86!
We are extremely grateful to everyone that has completed and is yet to jump, as
well as all at EPRUFC.
e amazing fundraising accomplishments
continued with the return of the Back on the Beat Cycle Sportive. We were very
lucky with the weather and had a gloriously sunny day to enjoy whilst 103
riders took on the challenging Yorkshire hills on both routes. There was a
great buzz on the day and feedback from those taking part, marshalling the
route and those on the feed stations, was remarkable. Catch up with the results here
We are also delighted to announce that we have
secured five free charity places for this year’s Manchester
Half Marathon, taking place on Sunday 14 October! The five free places to run
in aid of The Police Treatment Centres, will be allocated on a first come,
first served basis. If you would like to find out more or take up one of these
places, raising money to continue helping the Police Family, please
get in touch with Zoe Ponton, Donor Engagement Officer at fundraising@thepolicetreatmentcentres.org.
The day after the BOTB Sportive, it was
straight off to the PFEW Conference in Birmingham to promote the two charities.
The conference is always a great opportunity to catch up with colleagues we
only usually see in passing at briefings or speak to via email.
As it was Mental Health Awareness Week the
week prior, we brought along a few activities to promote our increasingly
necessary Psychological Wellbeing Programme. Our ‘Cops Colouring for Calm’ may
have seemed silly to those that haven’t done paint by numbers since they were
at primary school, but it is a simple way to practice mindfulness in the short
rest we have. Whether the Officers there found a meditative state or not,
everyone that took part certainly had a moment to themselves in the hubbub of
the busy conference, and we found some secret artists!
This month, I also had the pleasure of showing
Greg Dean the facilities at St Andrews. Greg is from Victoria, Australia and is
in charge of Welfare for Police Officers. Greg is compiling a report to
investigate early intervention in mental illnesses for serving police and peer
support for former police employees - USA, Canada, UK and Hong Kong, through
the Churchill Fellowships.
Of course, usual business found some way to
fit in between all this exciting activity. The Donor Recruitment and Charity
Engagement Team continue to be out and about everywhere from London with BTP
Student Officers to a Wellbeing event in North Wales and conference at
Tulliallan Police College in Scotland.
Finally, it seems apt at this time with it
being Volunteers Week to thank the amazing people that support the charities by
giving up their time – whether it is being an Ambassador at events promoting
the benefits of the PTC to their colleagues, volunteering at the centres to run
a tour or look after the stunning grounds, or taking part in a fundraising
challenge – they are all heroes. This year, Volunteers’ Week is about
volunteering for all – celebrating the huge range of people who give their time
in so many ways.
When you do good, you feel good!
