Police officers are very often the first responders to serious accidents and dangerous incidents, which can sometimes result in the unthinkable happening. While no amount of money can replace a parent, support from the St George’s Police Children Trust can provide a degree of financial certainly in difficult times and is provided for on or off duty incidents.
The Trust is a registered charity which provides support of a financial nature to children and young people whose police officer parent has either lost their life or had an injury/illness, whilst on or off duty, preventing them from being able to work.
“The support we received from St George’s meant Rhianna and I could move forward and start a life together.”
“The support we receive from the Trust helps us to not feel forgotten, that is really important.”
“The money we have received from St George’s has made such a difference to the boys lives, it has paid for all the extras, not to mention just helping to cover the costs of bringing up a family of five. I can’t begin to imagine how different our lives would have been without the support we have received. Can’t begin to explain how grateful we are and so thankful for what they have done.”
This year focus will be given to raising the profile of the Charity in the hope to increase both the number of officers donating to the cause and ensuring the appropriate messages are being presented so if help is needed it can be accessed straight away.
All 19 forces within the Charity’s catchment area will be approached and asked to participate in this campaign during 2016. Both Northumbria’s Chief Constable Steve Ashman and Cleveland’s Temporary Chief Constable Ian Spittal have today pledged their support to help promote the campaign within their North East forces.
