Our lottery was launched in July 2013 to bridge the widening funding gap as a result of the falling numbers of officer donations. Lottery ticket sales have now reached 6038 which equates to
£42,456 per year being raised. This new funding stream is really helping to make a difference to the lives of our patients.
By taking part in the lottery we can continue our vital work, ensuring serving and retired officers can be given the best treatments and therapies for an effective speedy recovery.
Recent Winners:
Sue Cracknel, recently retired police officer from Humberside won the top prize of £1000 in October 2013!
Since 2008 due to reoccurring problems to both shoulders, Sue had been a regular patient at the Police Treatment Centres, St Andrews in Harrogate.
Sue advised, “I was not in a good place. The frustration of so many surgical procedures and the job’s view on ‘not being fit for operational duty’ took its toll on me and I really could not see the light at the end of the tunnel. Then I was invited to attend Harrogate for physio and support. The treatment I received and the help and advice were second to none. It was a long road to recovery but a road I never thought I would see.”
Sue felt indebted to the Police Treatment Centre for the help they were able to give to her and when the lottery was launched it was a no brainer for Sue, she signed up straight away.
“
A friend once told me “You have to give a little to gain a lot” and nothing could be nearer the truth, by giving a small monthly sum to the lottery, I know I am doing my bit to let others from the Police Community find the same help and support I received.”
Michael Brown, retired officer now living in Australia won the top £1000 prize in December 2013!
Michael joined the Thames Valley Police in January 1971 after a 6 year stint in the Royal Air Force. He enjoyed a varied career within the force in a number of different roles including; mobile task force, CID, patrol Sergeant and in Crime Reduction and retired in 2001 after completing 30 years within the force.
Michael was fortunate not to have needed to access the facilities of the Treatment Centres during his career, although had visited them on several occasions visiting colleagues who were staying and had been most impressed.
“
Any treatment that gets Police Officers back on the front line has got to be a good thing.”
Michael was keen to continue supporting the work of the Police Treatment Centres when he retired and found the lottery to be a great way of doing so.
“
It was a real bonus winning a prize. My wife Marian and I plan to spend the money on a holiday but as most retirees have found fitting in a break is a real problem, but I suppose we will cope somehow!”
