Wetherby Weekends
The Treatment Centres have enjoyed getting out and about in Wetherby during the last month promoting the work of the charity.
Saturday 16th July – Wetherby Police Station Open Day
A great day had by all... in spite of the weather!
Wetherby Police Station’s annual open day was held this year in aid of The Police Treatment Centres. The event was opened by Mr Chris Hughes of BBC's Egghead. He is a winner of Mastermind, Brain of Britain and International Mastermind. Other distinguished guests were Conservative MP for the area Alec Shelbrooke, the Mayor of Wetherby Cindy Bentley and Assistant Chief Constable Geoff Dodd.
There was plenty to be seen on the day including: crime scene scenarios, a police dog display, riot cops in action demonstrations, the Gurkhas, RAF Air cadets and the Fire Service.
As well as benefiting from the proceeds of the day, The Police Treatment Centres were invited along to take a stall. St Andrew’s Head Physio, Mark Oxley was at hand on the day to talk to visitors about the care that is given at the Centre and even brought along some of the equipment they use including fit balls and flexi bars. Further donations were also made by children taking part in naming the physio’s skeleton, thank you to all who took part.
The event had a grand finale with the “Battle of Britain Memorial Flight” carrying out a spectacular Spitfire fly past diving over the display area to the delight of all those present.
A cheque was presented on the 8th September for £981.51. Thank you Wetherby for your support.
Saturday 13th August – Friends of Sandringham Park Family Fun Day
The Police Treatment Centres joined forces with the “Friends of Sandringham Park” on Saturday 13th August to be part of their first family fun day event. The group had been set up to try and make a difference in anti-social behaviour by improving the services and support given to local residents.
The family fun day included: football matches for the Sandringham cup, face-painting, stalls, raffle, tombola and refreshments which were provided by the local scouts group.
Nicola Ridgway, Fundraiser at the Treatment Centres, said “We were most grateful to have been asked to be part of this event. We are aware of the huge role the police play in trying to combat anti-social behaviour and to be given an opportunity to talk to the community about the services we as a charity provide to injured and ill police officers is invaluable to the work we do. Thank you to all involved.”
The Centres' skeleton made another appearance, helping generate further funds for the charity on the day. Thanks to all who took part and congratulations to Dylan from Wetherby who was chosen as the winner for the day with his guess of “Mr Ribbs”.
