The PTC joins in with Heritage Open Days
For the first time ever the PTC has participated in the national Heritage Open Days event and was overwhelmed by the response.
The charity participated in the national Heritage Open Days event, which is a scheme where buildings which are not normally accessible to the public throw open their doors to visitors over a long weekend each September.
St Andrews was open from 2pm until 5pm on Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 September. Tours took place every half an hour and there was plenty of information on display about the history of the Charity as well as the treatments and services we provide. Adults could participate in a garden trail which identified the plants, trees and shrubs that feature around the grounds and there was even a ‘Hunt the Police Helmet’ quiz for children. Refreshments were served in the dining room in exchange for a small donation. 170 people visited and over £300 was donated.
One visitor wrote on our Facebook page that they had “enjoyed a very informative and interesting tour round the treatment rooms, physio treatment area, pool, gym, accommodation and lovely gardens. Great services and treatment for our injured and convalescing police officers. Scones and brownies second to none.”
The event was supported by the Deputy Mayor of Harrogate (and friend of PTC) Councillor Pat Jones who welcomed visitors to the Centre, and Chris Plant from CJP Landscapes who was on hand to offer gardening tips. Local Trustees Nigel Day and Mark Botham also supported the event.
PR and Fundraising Manager Gemma Pettman said: “The biggest thank you must go to our own staff who gave up their time to help over the weekend. The event would not have been the success it was without your help. The atmosphere in the Centre was fantastic and it was great to receive so much positive feedback from our visitors.”
