John Kerr – Caledonian Etape May 2011

John Kerr, a Strathclyde police sergeant, whose career-threatening injuries were described as ‘amongst the worst I have seen’ by a physiotherapist at the Police Treatment Centres, has now raised money for the charity by competing in a charity event.

John joined forces with two friends, John Laing (another serving officer) and Mark McCabe, to compete in the Etape Caledonia 81-mile cycle race in Perthshire on Sunday 15 May.

He suffered three breaks to his shoulder during a serious skiing accident and over the course of a year John visited Castlebrae on four occasions, for intensive physiotherapy treatment. He said: “I have no doubt that without the help of the physios at Castlebrae my arm would not have recovered to the extent that it has and I would probably be doing a different job now.”

The team completed the race in four and half hours and have raised more than £1100, most of which has been donated via their Just Giving page www.justgiving.com/teams/thinblueline  Well done to the cycling cops!
